So how do you start a year that is supposed to be all about yourself? How do you get into the context of focusing on yourself and setting the path for the rest of the year? I have two weeks vacation before my online university course is starting and I wanted to spend this time doing something special. I wanted to have a good start on my year of exploration.
To start with, I had several ideas but none of them would really feel like it was the one. As I do not want to stress any decisions this year if they do not feel right I just gave it some time and waited for a bit. And then it was there. In late December I read about the Dog Rescue project in Elephant Nature Park outside of Chiang Mai in the north of Thailand. Anyone who know me knows that I love animals (and especially dogs) so this felt like the perfect thing to start with for me. So I have booked two weeks volunteering at the park. I am so excited!
What is Elephant Nature Park?
Some short words about the Elephant Nature Park: The Park was established in the 1990´s and its purpose is to provide a sanctuary and rescue centre for elephants. But not only elephants live here. In the catastrophic floods in Bangkok towards the end of 2011 a lot of dogs was trapped on rooftops and desperate for help. Volunteers from the Elephant Nature Parked helped out with the rescue and today the park include large dog runs and a small animal vet clinic.
