Not sure how this happened but somehow I ended up in something a bit different than planned this time. I signed up to work in an animal shelter but also ended up in the middle of an air show.
The LIMA exhibition
Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition (LIMA) is a maritime and aerospace exhibition that takes place once every two years in Langkawi, Malaysia. The event is one of the largest maritime and aerospace exhibitions in the Asia-Pacific, and is focused mainly on the defence industry, but also supports civilian industries. In 2015 there were over 39 000 visitors from 36 different countries and I assume this years event was equally big. The exhibition takes place at the airport but of course also in the air to show the latest and greatest flying machines.
Fighter jets are loud!
Maybe destiny decided to make a flirt with me and my past years in the Swedish Air Force because coming here I had no knowledge about LIMA. Nevertheless I ended up having different fighter jets flying over my head for about ten days; five days of training and five days of two daily air shows. With the shelter being located very close to the airport we had it pretty much over our heads all the time. There was also quite a few VIP cars in the area as at least three different defence ministers visited the restaurant at the resort during the exhibition. I do like to watch the flying but I have to tell you that ten days of deafening noise is a bit to much. So thought most of the dogs… We were all quite happy when everything went back to the normal peaceful environment.
“If you must make a noise, make it quietly.”
